6 simple tips for a better student life

Student life gives you a lot of freedom to organize your day the way you want, but it's not always easy. What should you do first? And how do you structure everything? Here are six low-threshold hacks that will help you get better flow in your everyday life 👇

1. Plan your week – and write it down 📝

Start the week by making an overview: What needs to be done this week, and what do you want to get done? When you have everything down on paper (or mobile notes), it becomes much easier to stay focused – and you'll love being able to cross things off as you go ✅ Be realistic. Don't write "read 50 pages" if you know it won't happen. Give yourself some wiggle room – it works as a buffer. Bonus: When you prioritize the most important things first, you don't get stressed about everything at once. And the more you master, the more motivated you will feel.

2. Start and finish at fixed times ⏰

Study = more flexible than 9–17, but it can help to set up your day a bit like a work day. Decide when you start and end, take breaks, and stick to lunch times that provide structure. Eat lunch somewhere other than where you study – take your packed lunch out or in the cafeteria with a friend. It feels more like a real break, and you recharge better.

3. Find a study group 👯‍♀️

Studying alone can get a bit boring and quickly become overwhelming. Try getting a few people together and forming a study group – it’s both social and educational. Talking about the curriculum makes things easier to understand and remember better.

Tip: Set up regular meeting days – perhaps especially on days without lectures. It gives you a reason to get to campus and keeps you going.

4. Get enough sleep 😴

We know – a lot of fun happens as a student. But sleep and a good circadian rhythm are actually crucial for functioning, learning, feeling good and performing.

  • Try to go to bed and get up at about the same time every day
  • Avoid screens and caffeine right before bed
  • Read a book (preferably not a syllabus) to calm down
  • The temperature in your room should be around 18 degrees
  • Worried? Write it down and let it go for the night

5. Get rid of the time thieves 📱💥

Reading evenly throughout the semester saves you from panic during exam periods. But it's easy to get distracted - especially when your phone is right next to you and beckons with notifications. Put it somewhere you can't see it. It helps. And when motivation is low, good routines are worth their weight in gold - they make you get to campus and keep going, even on slow days 💪

6. Remember to relax 💆‍♀️

Studying is important - but free time is also a big part of everyday student life. When you do something nice after reading, it feels like a reward for your efforts. Exercise, meet friends, take a walk, watch a series, relax. The most important thing is that you feel disconnected and recharged. Then you are ready for a new day tomorrow ✨
