Loneliness is a vague longing or a sense of missing others. Events typically associated with community and social experiences can be especially difficult if you don’t have someone to share them with.
Many students feel like they are struggling alone in their studies, finding it hard to structure their daily routines or make weekends meaningful. Loneliness is a painful feeling, but you should know that you are not alone. There are ways to break out of loneliness.

Here are student counseling’s tips for dealing with loneliness:
Talk to someone you trust
Speak to someone you trust about how you’re feeling. By opening up and sharing your feelings with someone you feel safe with, you increase the chances of receiving support in the future. You can also reach out to Samskipnaden’s student counseling service, your doctor, or a psychologist if you need professional help to discuss your challenges.
Share positive experiences
Sharing positive experiences or moments with others has been shown to have a surprisingly strong impact on reducing feelings of loneliness. Seek out social spaces such as organized recreational activities or student organizations. If you have a particular interest or hobby, try to engage in it within a community. Establish routines where you regularly meet the same people – over time, strangers can become friends.
Getting involved in a student organization is often a great way to meet new people – there is a student organization for everyone.
