1. Your memory works better when you are relaxed
It’s important to learn a relaxation method for all the stressful times in your life. If you need help getting started, we have advice for relaxation techniques as well. We also recommend following Kraft Sports Centre on social media for free yoga workouts and other exercises to prevent stress.
2. Strengthen your motivation; find a good mantra that helps you
"Be the best version of yourself," "Nothing is impossible," "Do something today that your future self will be proud of" ...or whatever has meaning to you and creates motivation. It is a little cheesy, but consistent positive self-talk has a proven effectiveness on both mood and confidence.
3. Practice, Practice, Practice
Create a mock exam for yourself. Previous exams are often available on Canvas, and these are excellent for practice.
4. Familiarize yourself with the exam location and how to get there
If your exam is on campus, it’s smart to find out where it is before the day arrives. Its one thing less to worry about, and it lessens the risk of showing up late.
5. Advice for home exams
A lot of students take digital exams from home. It's important to prepare the day before: get food that you know gives you energy and doesn’t make you feel drowsy and heavy, lay out all your notes and books for easy access in the morning, and make sure you are comfortable.
6. Take time to recharge your batteries
Put the books away and relax the evening before the exam. You have an energy-demanding day ahead. Eat well and get a good night’s sleep. Many swear by cramming and staying up the night before, but trust that you’ve covered the necessary material and calm down.
7. If you can’t sleep the night before, just relax!
Your body and brain are amazing like that. Even if you just lay down with your eyes closed, your body recharges. You’ll manage to stay awake during the exam and perform for those few hours. Bring a cup of coffee if you need a little boost to keep your eyes open.
8. When you get the task: Read it thoroughly!
It’s easy to miss details in the exam text if you're not focused. Start with what you’re confident in. It’s a shame to answer incorrectly because you rushed at the beginning. Go over the questions multiple times.
9. Take breaks during the exam. Move around and stretch
Get up and jump, go outside for some fresh air. Remember, it's enough to be good enough—you don’t always have to be the best.
