Apply for kindergarten in Tromsø

All kindergartens in your municipality use a common system for applications and admissions. Through the shared application portal, you can easily apply for a place in both student kindergartens and municipal kindergartens.

Information for international applicants

Please note that you must have a Norwegian personal number to use the municipality's application portal. International applicants can be assigned a temporary personal number by the Service Desk at Tromsø Municipality to register in the application portal. This allows you to apply for a kindergarten place on the same terms as other applicants.

Application deadlines

You can apply for a kindergarten place throughout the year, and we have rolling admissions if there are available spots. However, to be included in the main admission process, you must apply by 1st March.

Offers for kindergarten places will be sent to the primary applicant* via email. Therefore, make sure to provide a correct and up-to-date email address.

Important deadlines in Tromsø:

• Application for transfer: 1st February
• Application deadline for new applicants: 1st March

* Primary applicant: The person listed in the application portal as the applicant on behalf of the child, who will receive all information and offers regarding the kindergarten place.
