Breivika Student Kindergarten has received the Forskerfrø Award 2024 for its engaging and educational project on bees and honey. The award is presented by the Norwegian Centre for Science Education and recognises kindergartens that inspire children's curiosity and enthusiasm for exploration in science.
From Bumblebee to Honey – An Exploratory Adventure
It all started with a bumblebee that caught the children's attention. From this small observation, a project emerged, where the children, together with the staff, explored how honey is made. They contacted a beekeeper, gathered information from the Honey Centre, and visited a bumblebee expert at the Botanical Garden in Tromsø. Throughout the process, the children's questions and curiosity were the driving force, and they not only learned about bees and honey production but also how to find and use reliable information.
