Mortensnes Student Housing is centrally located on the north of the island of Tromsøya, 2 km from the university and 5 km from downtown Tromsø. This student housing offers studio apartments, family apartments, and disability-friendly apartments. There is parking at the designated parking spaces with a valid parking card, as well as a children’s play area.

Each single room is furnished with a bed (90 cm), desk, chair, book shelf, coffee table and lounge chair. You need to provide your own bed linen, curtains and kitchen utensils. Eight residents share each kitchen and two share each bathroom. Each single-room has an indoor storage room and access to a communal storage room for sporting equipment. The residents have access to a communal building in Ørnevegen 28, with a laundry, reading room, sauna and communal lounge with kitchen.

Mortensnes Student Housing is an excellent base for outdoor recreation. The student housing is beside large areas of forest, which are popular for excursions year-round. There is a supermarket directly opposite the student housing. Tromsø’s largest shopping centre, which is 500 m away in Giæverbukta, offers a wide range of shops and places to eat. The closest student kindergartens are Breivika and Universet, which are both on the university campus.

Walk or cycle to campus

There are excellent opportunities to bike or walk from Mortensnes Student Housing to the university. Many people in Tromsø also ride their bikes in winter, so if you accept the challenge you can get to the university quickly in winter too. There is a cycling path most of the way to the university. It takes about 15 minutes to campus by bike, and half an hour on foot.

Public transportation

There are good bus connections to downtown Tromsø so it’s easy to get where you want to go. The bus terminal in Giæverbukta is a hub for many buses and from there you can catch a bus to virtually anywhere. Route 24 stops 500 m from the student housing and takes approx. 20 minutes to downtown Tromsø. The same route also has a bus stop at Lysaker by the ski bridge. From here, it’s a 10-minute walk to the campus. Route 24 goes directly from the student housing to the alpine ski centre on the mainland, and both Tromsdalen and Kroken offer good hiking terrain.
