Studentparlamentet

It consists of 25 elected students who meet once a month to make decisions and adopt policies on behalf of all UiT students.

The Student Parliament is made up of 19 representatives elected through a list-based vote—similar to how municipal councils are elected—and 6 campus representatives, who ensure that the campuses in Alta, Harstad, and Narvik are represented.

The Student Parliament appoints student representatives to various boards, councils, and committees at UiT, including the University Board, the Library Board, and the Committee for Equality and Diversity.

It also elects representatives to the board of the Arctic Student Welfare Organization of Norway (Norges Arktiske Studentsamskipnad), where students hold a majority of the seats.

The Student Parliament serves as an important consultative body for both the university and the student welfare organization. It regularly meets with the university leadership (the rectorate) and various academic directors.

The Student Parliament allocates several million NOK from the semester fee to student organizations in Tromsø and Finnmark, including student houses in Tromsø and Alta, welcome weeks (fadderuker), and student committees. Students in Narvik and Harstad manage and allocate the semester fee to their local student organizations themselves.

The Student Parliament is a member of the Norwegian Student Organization (NSO), a national advocacy group for student democracies in Norway. Membership fees are covered through the semester fee.
