Time and place

The knitting café takes place one Wednesday a month from 5–7 pm during the autumn semester of 2026 (August–November):

19 August, 16 September, 14 October, and 11 November.

We will be in the café at the Arctic University Museum of Norway (formerly Tromsø Museum), at Lars Thøringsveg 10 on southern Tromsøya.

Free equipment and guidance

If you do not know how to knit, we are happy to help you get started. Kvaløysletta Husflidslag will provide guidance and inspiration, and free equipment is available for those who need it.

Do you need help with a specific project?

Please send an email to siri.a.holmoy@uit.no a few days in advance if you are working on something special, so that we can prepare a little extra.

Kick-off August 19: free treat for UiT students and youth under 18

On 19 August, we kick off the knitting season with a special offer for UiT students and children under 18: free soup, or a pastry of your choice (for example cinnamon roll, muffins or waffle) with coffee or tea, from the museum café.

UiT-student or under 18? Sign up today to secure your coupon!

You will receive your coupon when you arrive at the knitting café. It can be used in the museum café between 17:00 and 20:00. UiT students must bring a valid student ID. Participants aged 16–18 must bring valid ID.

Evening opening with café and events

The knitting café is part of the Wednesday at the Museum series, featuring extended opening hours and special events one evening each month at The Arctic University Museum. On the same evening, you are welcome to explore the exhibitions and take part in other activities happening throughout the museum.

Occasionally, other events may take place in the café at the same time as the knitting café, creating a lively atmosphere.

The café will be open until 9PM, serving soup, baked goods, hot and cold drinks, and other treats at reasonable prices.
