Is there a fire in your home?

  • Attempt to extinguish the fire with the fire extinguishing equipment in your apartment.
  • Keep all doors and windows closed.
  • Close the door behind you when leaving the apartment. This prevents the fire from spreading to neighbors.
  • If there is a fire in a pot, cover it with a lid or blanket. Do not use water.

Is there a fire in the building?

  • If there is smoke in the hallway, stay inside the apartment and wait for help.
  • If the hallway is clear of smoke, evacuate to safety.
  • Most people who perish in fires die in smoke-filled common areas.

Read fire instructions.

Familiarize yourself with escape routes where you live.

Check where firefighting equipment is located in your home. Water is not suitable as a firefighting agent for grease pots, gasoline, and other liquids. Look for fire blankets and/or fire extinguishing spray in the kitchen.

Consider your escape options. The main entrance to the residence is the best option for rapid evacuation, but if there is smoke where you would normally evacuate, choose another route. This is because fire smoke is very hot and highly toxic. Another escape route could be a window, balcony, or escape ladder. There are many options, and it is important that you familiarize yourself with your residence and see where you can evacuate if you cannot use the usual route.

You are responsible for ensuring that escape routes are not blocked or covered. Report vandalism to firefighting equipment, physical fire hazards, or suspicious behavior to the caretaker through My Page.

You must ensure that you have home insurance. In case of fire or other damage, you will not be entitled to compensation if you do not have insurance.

Fire Hazards

Smoking
All smoking is strictly prohibited in Samskipnad's residences.

Clutter in hallways
Blocking escape routes is dangerous. Storage of items in common areas is prohibited for fire safety reasons.

Stove
Never leave the stove unattended while cooking. Do not use the stove if you are intoxicated or tired. Consider how you can easily extinguish a fire in the kitchen. Always have a lid, fire blanket, or fire extinguishing foam available.

Candles
It is not recommended to use candles in Samskipnaden's residences. LED lights can be a good alternative to candles considering fire safety. Never leave a room with lit candles!

Electrical equipment
Be careful with small electronics such as coffee makers and kettles. Unplug after use. Never dry clothes on electric heaters.

Mobile and PC

  • Stay awake: Only charge electrical items when you are awake and present.
  • Check the charger: Always use appropriate charger for what you are charging, and ensure that the charger is in good condition before use. Check the instruction manual or contact the dealer if you are in doubt.
  • Avoid covering: Chargers in use and batteries being charged get hot, and should therefore not be covered.
  • Safe place: Ensure to charge on a non-flammable surface. Do not place charging electronics on bed, sofa, or similar places. Ensure there is a smoke detector in the room where you are charging.
  • Correct use: Chargers are disconnected by gripping the plug itself. Do not pull on the cord, as this may damage the charger. Extension cords Many electrical appliances in combination with extension cords with extra outlets can cause overload and easily catch fire. Extension cords are prohibited in Samskipnaden's residences as a permanent solution. Do not let cords lie in door crevices or other places where they can be damaged or collect dust.

Flammable liquids
It is not allowed to store flammable liquids in the residences.
